Boy or Girl?

An acquaintance of Fawn’s, who a few months ago made a prediction about the baby, today asked her ‘What did I say the sex would be?’

‘A boy’

‘Of course. Yes, it will be a boy. I can tell.’ The obvious question is what the response would have been had she answered ‘A girl’.

It seems everyone has a prediction, male or female, sometimes backed up by a bit of folk wisdom about how the baby sits in the womb, or the severity of morning sickness, or the baby’s heart rate, or the time of month when the Brahma Bull points his horns toward the sky and farts rose petals. Apparently mixing the mother’s urine with Drano and observing the colour change is a popular technique (just don’t drink it afterwards).

When we started our prenatal class, the first hand out we received was a Chinese Astrology chart meant to predict the sex of the baby. Just plug in the mother’s age at conception, cross reference with the month of conception, and prepare to be amazed! It claimed to be 99% accurate.

I call bullshit. My guess is this chart’s accuracy is about the same as that of any other nonsense theory for predicting the baby’s sex—about 50%.
